A friend recommended we try Fardowners, a pub-ish restaurant in downtown Crozet that we had not been to because we really don’t spend much time in Crozet except to pick peaches at Chiles and take in the occasional polo match. We went there for an early dinner one night and really liked the food and the atmosphere. It is a very unassuming place, has a lot of character, and the service was very good. Its the kind of place that would probably be packed if it was located on the Mall in C’ville, but was only about a third full at 7pm on a Saturday.
We didn’t have much to eat, but what we had was very good. The wings were very tasty – a little crispy and just the right amount of heat. They make many of the hot sauces in house. We also had a very delicious bowl of mac & cheese. Other stuff coming out of the kitchen look very good. Even though there is a basic pub atmosphere, its clear to take their food very seriously. Also, they seem to have a great beer menu – a must for any restaurant in central VA it seems.
Overall we like this place a lot, and even though its a 20 minute drive, we’ll probably head back there sooner than later.
